My iPhone kept showing the “Storage Almost Full” warning, and it was getting annoying. Every time that message popped up, my phone felt slower, and some apps even stopped working properly. I didn’t want to delete photos, though, because that’s usually the first thing people suggest — and it’s also the last thing I want to touch.
Instead of guessing, I went to Settings → General → iPhone Storage to see what was actually taking up space. That alone was more helpful than I expected.
The biggest surprise was unused apps. There were apps I hadn’t opened in months, some in years. Deleting those freed up much more space than deleting a few photos ever did. I realized that a lot of apps quietly store data even when you’re not using them.
Next, I checked message attachments. Messaging apps keep photos, videos, and voice messages without you really noticing. Clearing old attachments made a noticeable difference, especially in group chats.
After cleaning that up, I turned on Offload Unused Apps. This removes apps you don’t use often but keeps their data, so you can reinstall them later without losing anything. It’s a good balance if you don’t want to delete things permanently.
Since doing this, I haven’t seen the storage warning again, and my phone feels noticeably smoother. I didn’t have to delete a single photo, which was exactly what I was hoping for.
